Karen Dunn to Participate in UVA Panel on “Unite the Right” Trial Victory

Litigation partner Karen Dunn will participate in a panel, “Inside Sines v. Kessler: A Case Holding White Supremacists Accountable,” hosted by the University of Virginia School of Law as part of its 2022 Community MLK Commemoration. The panelists will discuss the trial victory against the white supremacists and hate groups behind the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, and explore why it is a wake-up call to the white power movement. Karen will be joined by co-lead counsel Roberta Kaplan of Kaplan, Hecker & Fink; plaintiffs Marissa Blair, Elizabeth Sines and Devin Willis; and Emory University history professor Deborah Lipstadt, who gave expert testimony at the trial.

In Sines v. Kessler, Paul, Weiss and co-counsel secured a historic victory on behalf of nine pro bono clients who suffered physical and mental injuries resulting from the violence at the “Unite the Right” rally. A jury found all defendants liable for conspiracy to commit racially motivated violence under Virginia law, and awarded the plaintiffs over $25 million in compensatory and punitive damages.

The free program will be held virtually on January 25 at 5 p.m. ET.
