Paul, Weiss Hosts Discovery Clinic for Self-Represented Litigants with the City Bar Justice Center and BNY Mellon

Paul, Weiss, alongside the City Bar Justice Center and BNY Mellon, hosted a two-part legal clinic for self-represented litigants who have cases pending in the Eastern District of New York or Southern District of New York. Recognizing that discovery is an essential part of many litigations and that self-represented litigants often find the discovery process and governing rules daunting, the clinic aimed to demystify what discovery is, what it requires of litigants and how litigants can use it to their advantage.

In part one of the clinic, litigation partner Liz Sacksteder presented an overview of the principal rules governing discovery under the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and the tools and strategies litigants can employ when seeking and responding to discovery in their own cases. During part two of the clinic, Paul, Weiss and BNY Mellon attorneys consulted one-on-one with the pro se litigants to provide individualized advice about discovery-related issues in the litigants’ pending actions.

In addition to Liz, the Paul, Weiss team included litigation counsel Amy Barton and associates Jeremy Allen-Arney, Eva Gao, Thaddeus Talbot and Leah Weiser. The clinic was coordinated by pro bono attorney Jeremy Benjamin.
