Presidential Commission Recommends Significant Changes to Offshore Energy Production Practices, Regulation in Gulf of Mexico

Presidential Commission has issued a report on its investigation of last April's Deepwater Horizon spill. The report recommends significant changes to safety practices and spill response in offshore energy production in the Gulf of Mexico. Congressional response to the report was divided on party lines, and the prospects for legislation implementing the report's recommendations appear dim, though changes in the safety and spill response practices of the offshore energy industry, implementing some of the report's recommendations, are being adopted by the industry and its regulators.
