Global Private Funds Group Co-Head Marco Masotti spoke with Private Equity International about the innovative ways general partners are navigating a slower fundraising environment. The article, “GPs get creative amid slow fundraising,” published on April 3, references Paul, Weiss’s most recent annual report on private equity fund trends and industry developments, which points to top managers keeping funds open longer and engaging in “game theory” strategies.
“What you do see in a market like this is a baked-in ability for GPs to extend, as opposed to going to all investors and seeking amendments,” Marco notes. A GP might do a six-month extension and the limited partner advisory committee would need to approve thereafter, he adds.
