Paul, Weiss Announces Election of Nine New Partners

Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP is pleased to announce that nine attorneys have been elected to the partnership, effective January 1, 2022: Ian M. Hazlett, Christopher Hopkins, Matthew B. Jordan, Robert A. Killip, Kaisa Kuusk, Crystal L. Parker, Paul L. Sandler, Suhan Shim and Samuel J. Welt. All are resident in the New York office except for Mr. Hazlett, who is resident in the Toronto office, and Ms. Kuusk, who is resident in the London office.

Ian M. Hazlett will become a partner in the Corporate Department. Ian represents corporate clients, private equity sponsors and pension funds in public and private M&A transactions, including joint ventures, carve-out transactions and venture capital investments. He earned his J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, his M.A. from the University of Ottawa and his B.A. from Queen’s University.

Christopher Hopkins will become a partner in the Restructuring Department. Chris represents companies, creditor and lender groups, and sponsors and other investors in complex chapter 11 cases, out-of-court restructurings, cross-border restructurings and other insolvency-related transactions. Chris earned his J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law and his B.S. from Empire State College; he served as a Sergeant and Infantry Squad leader in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.

Matthew B. Jordan will become a partner in the Tax Department. Matthew advises clients on tax matters, including in U.S. and cross-border M&A transactions, strategic investments and joint ventures, investment funds, financings and capital markets transactions. Matthew earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School and his B.A., cum laude, from Duke University.

Robert A. Killip will become a partner in the Tax Department. Robert advises clients on U.S. tax matters, including in public and private M&A transactions, restructurings, spin-offs, joint ventures, investment fund structuring and operation, and securities offerings. Robert earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law, his M.B.A., with high honors, from Boston University School of Management and his B.A., summa cum laude, from American University.

Kaisa Kuusk will become a partner in the Corporate Department. Kaisa advises private equity and other clients in cross-border M&A transactions, public to private transactions and strategic joint ventures across Europe, with a particular focus on the financial services sector. Kaisa earned her LL.M. from Columbia Law School and her B.A. in Law and Business Studies, with joint honors, from the University of Warwick.

Crystal L. Parker will become a partner in the Litigation Department. Crystal represents a broad range of companies in complex commercial matters, including intellectual property-related disputes, patent infringement, copyright infringement, product liability, trade secrets and other commercial matters. Crystal earned her J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law and her B.S., magna cum laude, from the University of Oklahoma.

Paul L. Sandler will become a partner in the Corporate Department. A member of the Finance Group, Paul advises creditors, major corporations, investment funds and sponsors in a range of restructurings and financing transactions, credit investments and private equity transactions. Paul earned his J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Tufts University.

Suhan Shim will become a partner in the Corporate Department. A member of the Finance Group, Suhan represents private equity and other clients in acquisition financings, bridge financings, and in- and out-of-court distressed financing matters, including liability management transactions. Suhan earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School and his B.S. from Seoul National University.

Samuel J. Welt will become a partner in the Corporate Department. A member of the M&A and Private Equity groups, Sam advises private equity and strategic clients on M&A transactions, joint ventures, dispositions, restructurings, and equity and debt financings. Sam earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law, his M.B.A. from New York University Stern School of Business and his B.B.A. from Emory University.
