Bob Atkins Quoted in The Washington Independent on Voter Fraud

Litigation partner Bob Atkins was quoted in a story in The Washington Independent on October 1 about voting rights lawsuits and battles leading up to the November elections. Working with the Brennan Center, Bob and a team of Paul, Weiss lawyers have challenged voter registration laws in Washington State and Florida that have excluded thousands of eligible voters from the registration rolls. Commenting on the oft-made assertion that restrictions on voting are necessary to prevent "voter fraud," Bob stated, "Voter fraud is a huge canard. There's a long history of systematic attempts to rip off elections. There's no evidence to support individual efforts of voter fraud. It's a sham." As a result of Paul, Weiss's effort, Florida has amended its voter registration rules. However, former Paul, Weiss associate Adam Skaggs, now counsel for the Brennan Center, said, "There is still reason to worry though that thousands of newly registered voters won't get the right directions of what to do ... and won't understand they need to do something else to verify their ballot."
