Second Circuit Review: The ‘Advanced Knowledge’ Prong of the FLSA’s ‘Learned Professional’ Exemption

Litigation of counsel Martin Flumenbaum and firm chairman Brad Karp’s latest Second Circuit Review column, “The ‘Advanced Knowledge’ Prong of the FLSA’s ‘Learned Professional’ Exemption,” appeared in the March 24 issue of the New York Law Journal. The authors discuss a recent decision in Isett v. Aetna Life Insurance, in which the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit clarified the standard for determining whether an employee utilizes “advanced knowledge” necessary to qualify for the “learned professional” exemption to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s overtime-compensation mandate.
