The American Lawyer Names Nina Kovalenko and Bob O’Loughlin “Litigators of the Week” Runners-Up for Excessive Force Victory

Litigation associates Nina Kovalenko and Bob O’Loughlin (currently on secondment) were named “Litigator of the Week” runners-up by The American Lawyer for winning a rare excessive force verdict against police on behalf of pro bono client Steven Thomas.
Following a one-day bench trial on March 16, U.S. Magistrate Judge Anne Shields in the Eastern District of New York awarded Thomas $475,000 in compensatory damages for his physical and mental pain and suffering after he was shot by an off-duty police officer in 2011. Bob conducted the direct examination of our client.
