Paul, Weiss Obtains Education Services for Special Needs Child

Paul, Weiss successfully obtained relief for a child with autism in a special education due process hearing. This is Paul, Weiss’s second successful representation of this pro bono client and his parents. The firm obtained all of the requested relief, including tailored therapies for the student, translations and interpreters to allow the parents to participate in their child’s education, and further relief in response to the state’s failure to offer the child an appropriate education for more than six years. The two-day hearing involved the testimony of two witnesses, including one expert.

The Paul, Weiss team included litigation associates Meaghan Brennan, who successfully presented the case to the impartial hearing officer, and Kelly Garcia. The team worked with Nelson Mar of Bronx Legal Services and Amy Leipziger of Queens Legal Services, and was supervised by litigation partner Jennifer H. Wu.
