Litigation partner Ted Wells was named “Litigator of the Week” by The American Lawyer on June 21, in recognition of a victory by Ted and litigation partners Kannon Shanmugam and Yahonnes Cleary on behalf of New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy.
In a Q&A with The American Lawyer, Ted discusses the importance of the case to the public, and how the team overcame a preliminary injunction motion. The dispute, which involves two of the most important political figures in New Jersey, stemmed from an attempt to shut down a task force the governor formed to investigate a multi-billion dollar state tax incentive program.
Leading oral arguments on behalf of the governor and the task force in the hearing on June 17 “was an extraordinary experience for me. We had cameras pointed at us all day, live-streaming on NJTV. It was a continual reminder at just how intensely the public was focused on this and how important it was to the state,” Ted said in the article.
