On September 21, 2008, the SEC issued amendments to an emergency order issued last week that imposed a temporary ban on short selling of the publicly traded securities of banks, insurance companies, securities firms and their holding companies. The amendments reflect changes to the firms whose securities are included in the ban and changes to the exceptions for market making activities.
