An article written by real estate partner Meredith Kane is featured in the "Real Estate Trends" section of today's New York Law Journal. The article, "Public/Private Ventures," discusses the opportunities available to New York's major civic institutions -- schools, hospitals, churches, museums, universities and libraries -- in leveraging their prime New York real estate holdings into newly constructed, state-of-the-art facilities in conjunction with developers. As Meredith explains, these are creative transactions in which the institution "essentially conveys the unused development potential of the site to a developer, in return for the developer constructing within the new building on the site a new, state-of-the-art facility to be owned and occupied by the institution." Meredith then offers pointers on how to successfully complete these transactions.
