London-based securities partner Mark S. Bergman authored an article (dated prior to the recent meltdown in the markets) discussing listing options in the global capital markets. While private equity-backed initial public offerings (IPOs) drove activity in the first quarter of the year, overall, China has been a key driver, both in terms of number of offerings and volumes raised. The emerging trend of an increasing level of new listings in Asia represents a potential challenge to the historically dominant financial centers of the United States and Europe, which both lost significant market share to Hong Kong in 2010.
