Paul, Weiss Named "IT/Telecom Firm of the Year" and Transactions Win "Deals of the Year"

For the tenth time, Paul, Weiss won "IT/Telecom Law Firm of the Year" honors at the Asian Legal Business Hong Kong Law Awards on September 9. The ceremony also recognized three "deal of the year" transactions in which the firm played an important role:
- "M&A Deal of the Year" -- Shanghai Disneyland, in which Paul, Weiss represented the state-owned enterprise Shanghai Shendi Group Co. in a joint venture contract with Disney to build the first mainland China theme park;
- "Taiwan Deal of the Year" -- Carlyle-Taiwan Cable TV Business Sale, wherein Paul, Weiss advised The Carlyle Group in its sale of 80 percent of its interest in kbro, Taiwan's largest cable TV operator, to Wealth Media, in a transaction valued at approximately $2.4 billion; and
- Finalist, "Korea Deal of the Year" -- Hanwha Chemical Group -- Solarfun Stake Acquisition, in which Paul, Weiss client Good Energies entered into an agreement to sell certain shares of Solarfun Power Holdings Co., Ltd. to Hanwha Chemical Corporation for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $200 million.
The awards are the Hong Kong legal industry's most prestigious awards program.
