Description of Program and Relief

University of Chicago’s South Side Food Security Program

During the COVID-19 outbreak, the University of Chicago is helping to address the urgent food security needs on the South Side by providing 225,000 meals over the course of a ten-week period. The University is using on-campus dining facilities to prepare meals that are being distributed to various locations within the University’s nine-community footprint on the South Side.

  • Operation Pull Grant Memorial – Oakland: Tuesdays, 1 p.m.–3 p.m.

  • St. James Food Pantry Douglas: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m.

  • FCHN Soup Kitchen – Englewood: Monday through Friday, 12 p.m.–2 p.m.

  • Matthew House Soup Kitchen – Grand Blvd.: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. –12:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m.–9:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.–12:30 p.m.

  • Chosen Tabernacle Full Gospel – Grand Blvd.: Thursdays, 1 p.m.–3 p.m.

  • Second Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. – Grand Blvd.: Fridays, 6 p.m.–8 p.m.

  • Hyde Park SDA Soup Kitchen – Hyde Park: Wednesdays, 11 a.m.–1 p.m.

  • Hyde Park Kenwood Food Pantry – Hyde Park: Saturdays, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.

  • St. Columbanus – Greater Grand Crossing: Wednesdays, 10 a.m.–12 p.m.

  • Inner-City Mission Network – Greater Grand Crossing: Thursday 1 p.m.–3 p.m.

  • Rainbow PUSH: Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.–11 a.m.

  • Kenwood UCC Soup Kitchen – Kenwood: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 9:30 a.m.–10 a.m. and 12 p.m.–1 p.m.

  • YWCA Laura Parks & Mildred Francis Center – Woodlawn: Sundays, 12 p.m.–1 p.m.

St. James Food Pantry – Douglas serves ZIP codes 60605 and 60616.

Hyde Park Kenwood Food Pantry – Hyde Park serves the area from Lake Michigan to Cottage Grove from 39th St. to 63rd St. as well as ZIP code 60615.

St. Columbanus – Greater Grand Crossing serves ZIP codes 60619 and 60637.

Inner-City Mission Network – Greater Grand Crossing serves ZIP codes 60617, 60619, 60637 and 60649.
