Department of Financial Services Announces Health Insurers Must Cover Costs of COVID-19 Testing Without Cost-Sharing

The Department of Financial Services (DFS) issued a circular letter on May 22, 2020 stating New York State health insurers must provide coverage of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection and antibody tests ordered and administered by a pharmacist, without imposing any cost-sharing including copayments, coinsurance, or annual deductibles.

Governor Cuomo also announced the launch of a new pilot program with 52 independent pharmacies to conduct 7,000 tests per week. Eligible New Yorkers are encouraged to visit coronavirus.health.ny.gov to find a nearby testing site and get tested.
