Description of Program and Relief

NY State of Health & Department of Financial Services Announce Special Enrollment Period for Uninsured New Yorkers

NY State of Health, together with the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS), announced in response to COVID-19 that they are making a Special Enrollment Period available to New Yorkers during which eligible individuals will be able to enroll in insurance coverage through NY State of Health, New York’s official health plan Marketplace, and directly through insurers. Individuals who enroll in Qualified Health Plans through NY State of Health or directly through insurers between March 16, 2020and May 15, 2020 will have coverage effective April 1, 2020. New Yorkers who are without health insurance should also apply now through the New York State of Health office. If an individual lost employer coverage, they must apply within 60 days of losing that coverage. Because of a loss of income, New Yorkers may also be eligible for Medicaid, the Essential Plan or Child Health Plus.
