Description of Program and Relief

Senior Center Meals Program

New York City senior centers are offering direct meal delivery service. Senior centers are now closed for all in-person programming and no longer offering grab-and-go meals.

Through the centralized direct delivery meal system, a five meal package will be delivered to each older adult using the system each week. Kosher meals are available. The meal recipient will be notified of deliveries through an automated phone call.

Direct meal delivery is available now. Grab-and-go meals are no longer available for pick up.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

Membership in a senior center is required in order to be eligible for the direct meal delivery system. Members are encouraged to call their local senior center or the Aging Connect hotline (212-AGING-NYC) to confirm that their senior center has accurate telephone and address information. Senior center members must call themselves—friends or family members cannot consent to phone number or address changes on the member’s behalf.

The City states that because of the outbreak, senior centers are not able to process new memberships at this time. However, case management agencies are accepting new clients and are able to provide home-delivered meals for older adults who are not already members of senior centers. The City states that because of the outbreak, all case management agency intake assessments will take place exclusively over the phone. Older adults can call Aging Access or 311 in order to be referred to a local case management agency.
