Description of Program and Relief

City of San Diego, California: Funding to Support Local Artists

The City of San Diego County will distribute $1 million in funding for two new arts programs, SD Practice and Park Social, through the Commission for Arts and Culture. Through these art programs, the city seeks to help local artists during the COVID-19 pandemic while also ensuring that more public art is available to San Diegans.

SD Practice, which has a total of $500,000 in funding, will add to the city’s art collection by purchasing existing works from living San Diego artists. Interested artists may apply through July 13, 2020; applications can be accessed here.

Park Social, which also has $500,000 in funding, will allow the city to contract with up to 18 artists to commission site-specific projects in parks across the city. This program will be launched this summer.
