Description of Program and Relief

COVID-19 Relief Fund

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf announced the creation of the COVID-19 Relief Fund for vulnerable residents and first responders in the City of Oakland. The Fund has been seeded with $2.5 million in donations. $300,000 has been earmarked for medical testing for first responders and others on the front lines of the COVID-19 epidemic. $200,000 has been designated for Keep Oakland Housed, which offers financial help to residents on the brink of an eviction. $400,000 will go to SOS Meals on Wheels, which serves meals to 40,000 seniors. $250,000 has been designated for small business relief.

The Fund will provide immediate grants to nonprofit organizations working on the frontlines of the crisis. The Fund will not provide grants to individuals or for-profit entities. Funding will also be used for expansions of medical testing (including drive-through testing), meal programs, housing programs, and provision of medical equipment to first responders.

Additional details are forthcoming.
