Description of Program and Relief

San Francisco: Paid Sick Leave Expansion (Workers and Families First)

The City of San Francisco announced the Worker and Families First Program to provide $10 million in public funding to businesses for providing five additional days of sick leave pay to workers beyond their existing policies in which the City contributes one week (40 hours) at minimum wage per employee, and the employer pays the difference between the minimum wage and the employee’s full hourly wage. Initial funding has now been depleted, but businesses can apply here to be added to the waitlist on a first-come-first-reviewed basis if additional funding becomes available.

Applications are closed, but businesses can apply for the waitlist and will be contacted if funds become available.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

All San Francisco businesses that meet the eligibility requirements found here. This program will be available only if the employee has exhausted their currently available sick leave, the employee has exhausted or is not eligible for federal or state supplemental sick leave, and the employer agrees to extend sick leave beyond current benefits.
