Description of Program and Relief

Sacramento, California Area: School Meals

Five Sacramento-area school districts—Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD), Natomas Unified School District (NUSD), Robla School District, Twin Rivers Unified School District and Elk Grove United School District (EGUSD)—are offering free meals to students.

SCUSD is offering free breakfast and lunch to students at 31 SCUSD schools from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Meals are distributed in the front office at 31 different school sites. Free meals will also be available from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at 14 locations for families that cannot pick up meals during the day. District staff will deliver meals to your car. For the most up-to-date information about the locations and times for meal service, please click here.

Additionally, NUSD is providing lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the duration of the school closures to children under 18, regardless of whether they live within the district. Natomas is providing services at 15 NUSD locations. For additional information about the locations where meals are being served, visit the NUSD website.

Robla School District is distributing free meals to children under age 18 in the Robla School District community through the Meals on Wheels program. The Meals on Wheels program will distribute four meals on Mondays to cover breakfast and lunch for Monday and Tuesday, and six meals on Wednesdays to cover breakfast and lunch for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Twin Rivers is distributing free lunch and next-day breakfast to children under 18 for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. The meals are available on Tuesdays through Fridays from 11:30 a.m.to 12:30 p.m. Meals can either be picked up or delivered. The pick-up service and delivery service will provide the same meals and operate under the same rules. For pick-up service, meals are served in the parking lot or bus lane of the pick-up location, and families should remain in the car. Children must be present in order to receive meals, and meals will be provided based on the number of children in the car. For a detailed list of the sites for pick-up service, please click here. EGUSD is distributing lunch and next-day breakfast to any child under 18, regardless of eligibility for free or reduced meals or school of attendance. Meals are served on Mondays through Fridays, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Children must be present to receive meals, but parents need not be present. Meals can be picked up through a drive-through, which will be located in either the parking lot or the bus lane. For the full list of pick-up locations, please click here. For families with limited transportation means, EGUSD will be launching a mobile meal pick-up service program in a number of select areas. Those who are eligible for this service will be notified directly by EGUSD.
