Description of Program and Relief

Temporary Relief from Tenant Evictions

The Sacramento City Council has adopted an emergency ordinance to establish a temporary ban on evicting residential and commercial tenants unable to pay rent due to a loss of income caused by COVID-19. Tenants who are given eviction protection under this ordinance will have up to 120 days after the expiration of the Governor’s Executive Order N-28-20 (currently scheduled for May 31, 2020, unless extended) to pay their landlord all unpaid rent.

The ordinance also waives late fees for rent that was owed during the ordinance period.
