Description of Program and Relief

Temporary Relief from Tenant Evictions

The Sacramento City Council has adopted an emergency ordinance to establish a temporary ban on evicting residential and commercial tenants unable to pay rent as a result of a loss of income caused by COVID-19. The City’s ordinance has been extended to July 28, 2020, based on the Governor’s Executive Order issued on May 29, 2020. To avoid eviction, tenants must pay all back rent due no later than November 25, 2020. The ordinance also waives late fees for rent that was owed during the ordinance period.
