Description of Program and Relief

Paid Sick Leave (PSL) Program (§ 31-52r)

Under Connecticut’s existing PSL program, service workers who work for employers with 50 or more employees may be eligible to up to 40 hours of PSL, including to cover absences caused by COVID-19.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

Eligibility requirements are available here. As a general matter, employees must work for an employer that employs 50 or more employees. PSL provides up to 40 hours of leave for certain workers per year for the following reasons (e.g., as a result of COVID-19):

  • A service worker’s illness, injury or health condition

  • The medical diagnosis, care or treatment of a service worker’s mental illness or physical illness, injury or health condition

  • Preventative medical care for a service worker

  • A service worker’s child’s or spouse’s illness, injury or health condition

  • The medical diagnosis, care or treatment of a service worker’s child’s or spouse’s mental or physical illness, injury or health condition

  • Preventative medical care for a child or spouse of a service worker
