Description of Program and Relief

Extension of Expiring Drivers’ Licenses and ID Cards

In light of COVID-19, the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) has extended the expiration date by an additional 120 days for most licenses and ID cards expiring during the period of March 14, 2020 to June 30, 2020. Notices will be mailed, and new cards will be printed and mailed directly to customers.

DDS is providing limited driver services by appointment only. All customers must schedule an appointment when visiting a center. DDS encourages all customers to use DDS Online Services or the DDS 2 GO app during this public health emergency.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

Eligible types of licenses include: ID cards, commercial (CDL) and non-commercial driver’s licenses, limited

permits, and driving permits. Medical Certifications and CDL endorsements will be extended along with

the CDL licenses.
