Description of Program and Relief

Extension on Expiring Driving Credentials

The Idaho Department of Transportation has extended all driver’s licenses, driver’s training permits, instruction permits, commercial learner’s permits, identification cards, and commercial driver’s licenses without hazardous material (“hazmat”) endorsements that are expired or will expire between March 1, 2020 and May 31, 2020, to be valid until June 30, 2020.

Drivers with hazmat endorsements whose credentials expire between March 1, 2020 and July 31, 2020, are granted an extension until August 31, 2020. A driver subject to this extension must initiate his or her security threat assessment renewal by July 1, 2020 (no less than 60 days prior to the expiration of the extension).

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

The department of transportation is not reprinting credentials at this time. It is recommended that anyone with an expired hazmat endorsement carry a copy of the department of transportation’s notice regarding hazmat endorsements, available here.

Application Deadlines (If Applicable)

June 30, 2020 or August 31, 2020 (hazmat endorsements only). Hazmat drivers must initiate their security threat assessment renewal by July 1, 2020.
