Rental Assistance

Description of Program and Relief

The Rental Assistance Program provides financial assistance in the form of rent payments to eligible Chicago residents who are in danger of eviction. This program was previously in place, and has not changed in response to COVID-19.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

A household must be at immediate risk of homelessness, and must document a temporary economic crisis beyond its control. The household must be able to demonstrate an ability to meet its prospective rental obligations after the assistance has been granted, based on current or anticipated income.

Although the program will provide payment of rent or rent arrears, it will not provide security deposits.

Property owners must also agree to participate in the program, and cannot be a relative of the applicant or live in the applicant’s household.
