Description of Program and Relief

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families is a program that provides cash assistance and supportive services to assist families with children under age 18, helping them achieve economic self-sufficiency. Families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic may qualify if they meet eligibility requirements (below). Per Executive Order 20-05 on the COVID-19 pandemic, job search requirements are temporarily waived for those applying for TANF benefits.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

Generally, eligibility is available to families with children under 18 who are living with their parent(s) or a relative such as a grandparent, aunt, or uncle may qualify for TANF if they meet specific nonfinancial criteria and if their countable family monthly income meets specific income guidelines on a graduated scale.
