Description of Program and Relief
Cash Assistance (Family Investment Program)
The Iowa Department of Human Services (“DHS”) provides cash assistance to needy families as they become self-supporting so that children may be cared for in their own homes or in the homes of relatives through the Family Investment Program (“FIP”), which is Iowa’s Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (“TANF”) program. Although no specific guidance has issued with respect to COVID-19, affected families may qualify if they meet eligibility requirements (below).

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions
Eligible applicants must have a child under the age of 18, or a child who is 18, attending high school, and will complete high school before age 19. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens or legal qualified aliens, live in Iowa, provide a social security number or proof of application for a social security number, meet income and resource requirements which vary by program, and provide all information needed to determine eligibility and benefit level.
