Description of Program and Relief

Food Assistance Program for Low-Income Households

The Iowa Department of Human Services (“DHS”) helps people with low income buy food using an Electronic Benefit Transfer (“EBT”) card. Food Assistance can be used to buy all types of foods that are intended to be eaten at home. Taxes cannot be charged on anything bought with Food Assistance. Although no specific Food Assistance guidance has issued with respect to COVID-19, affected families may qualify if they meet eligibility requirements (below).
