Description of Program and Relief

Medicaid

The Louisiana Department of Health provides health care for qualifying Louisiana residents through Medicaid. The program works to ensure that eligible adults and children have access to needed health care services by enrolling and paying providers to deliver covered services to eligible recipients.

Louisiana Medicaid is keeping members covered during the declared COVID-19 public health emergency. Current Medicaid members will not lose coverage for any reason other than death, permanently moving out of state, or requesting an end to their coverage. If a member receives a letter saying their coverage will end on April 30, 2020, they will receive another notice letting them know their coverage will continue. Income from federal stimulus checks or additional unemployment benefits related to COVID-19 will not affect Medicaid eligibility.
