Description of Program and Relief

Paid Family Sick Leave Law (§ 636)

Under Maine’s existing family sick leave law, if an employer provides paid sick leave, the employer shall allow an employee to use the paid leave for the care of an immediate family member who is ill, which the DOL has stated may include reasons associated with COVID-19.

Maine Department of Labor.

Effective immediately.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

Employees must work at a public or private employer with 25 or more employees. Immediate family member means an employee’s child, spouse or parent. Employees should discuss leave requests with their employers.
