Unpaid Family Medical Leave Law (§ 844)

Description of Program and Relief

Maine’s existing Family Medical Leave Law provides 10 workweeks of unpaid leave in any 2 years to take care of oneself or a loved one because of a serious health condition, which the DOL has stated may include reasons associated with COVID-19. Employers may provide paid leave at their discretion.

Effective immediately.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

The employee must have been employed by the employer for at least 12 consecutive months and must work for an employer with 15 or more employees. Employees should discuss leave requests with their employers.
