Description of Program and Relief

Food Supplement Program (FSP)

The Food Supplement Program (FSP)—Maryland’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—provides relief to low-income individuals to allow them to purchase food. While no specific guidance has been provided for those affected by COVID-19, individuals and families adversely impacted by COVID-19 should be eligible if they meet general eligibility requirements.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

One may qualify for FSP if one works for low wages, is unemployed or works part time, or otherwise has a limited income. The income eligibility requirements depend upon the size of the household. With certain exceptions, able-bodied adults between 16 and 60 years of age must register for work, accept an offer of suitable work, and take part in an employment and training program when referred to one by the local department of social services.
