Description of Program and Relief

Protecting Nursery, Greenhouse, Garden Centers, and Agriculture Supply Store Employees and the Public from Exposure to COVID-19

Nurseries, greenhouses, garden centers, and agriculture supply stores are required to implement measures to protect the health and welfare of the public while remaining open during the Governor’s declared State of Emergency. These measures include the following:

  • Deploying strategies to reduce COVID-19 exposure for their customers and employees, including (i) providing access to handwashing facilities and offering hand sanitizers and disinfecting wipes (as available); (ii) following procedures to ensure that both employees and customers remain at least six feet apart at all times, including a marked “Social Distancing Line” at checkout counters; (iii) regularly sanitizing touchpoints; (iv) adopting remote sales methods for some transactions; (v) offering on-site pick-up options such as curbside product drops in parking lots in which materials are loaded into customers’ vehicles; and (vi) sending employees home who display symptoms of COVID-19.

  • Accommodating employees who fall within the higher-risk populations with lower-exposure work assignments or allowing them to stay home.

  • Not bagging any products using reusable checkout bags.

  • Choosing to use recyclable paper bags, compostable plastic bags, or single-use plastic bags (regardless of any local ordinances banning such bags).

Additionally, nurseries, greenhouses, garden centers, and agriculture supply stores need to close for a sufficient time each evening for sanitizing.
