Description of Program and Relief

Women, Infants, & Children (WIC)

Minnesota’s existing WIC program provides relief for eligible pregnant women, new mothers, babies, and young children to afford food at supermarkets and grocery stores. While no specific guidance has been provided for those affected by COVID-19, individuals and families adversely impacted by COVID-19 should be eligible if they meet general eligibility requirements.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

To qualify for WIC, one must be a pregnant women or be parents with an infant or child under the age of 5. Eligibility also depends on household income. A guide is available here.

Applicants should call Minnesota State WIC Office at (800) 657-3942 or (651) 201-4404 for application information. Due to the impact of COVID-19, the physical presence requirements, requiring individuals to physically come into the clinic for certification or recertification, have been waived through May 31, 2020. As part of the waiver, Minnesota WIC may defer anthropometric and bloodwork requirements necessary to determine nutrition risk. More information is available here.
