Description of Program and Relief

Emergency Child Care for Working Parents

The Emergency Child Care program is a process for families to access child care during the public health crisis. To receive a customized referral to emergency child care programs, families should contact 211info. Licensed child care providers, public schools and emergency child care sponsored by employers or other entities would launch new, emergency child care facilities to provide emergency child care. Those classified as “essential workers” are prioritized to receive assistance. This includes first responders, emergency workers, health care professionals, critical operations staff and essential personnel, along with others.

The Oregon Department of Education, Early Learning Division has also established temporary changes to licensing and other provider requirements for child care programs during the emergency. These changes include adapting training requirements for license renewals, case-by-case exceptions with respect to capacity or adult-to-child ratios, an expedited background check process for providers, and an expedited process or providers to start new child care facilities to serve medical personnel, emergency responders and other essential personnel.
