Description of Program and Relief

Pennsylvania Commodity Supplemental Food Program for Seniors

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania operates a Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), which provides low-income seniors with monthly packages of nutritious food. Food supplies are purchased by the United States Department of Agriculture, which makes the food available to the Pennsylvania Bureau of Food Distribution, which in turn works with local non-profit organizations to distribute boxes of food each month to eligible participants. Food boxes typically include items such as non-fat dry and evaporated milk, juice, grains, pasta, proteins, and canned fruits and vegetables.
