State Income Tax Payment and Filing Extensions

Payments. Any income tax payments, including individual and corporate income tax payments, due during the time period from April 1, 2020 to June 1, 2020, will now be due on June 1, 2020. Late payment penalties will not be charged if payments are made by June 1, 2020. Interest will still accrue so taxpayers should try to pay by the original filing due date.

Filing. Virginia has an automatic 6-month filing extension, which moves the state income tax filing deadline from May 1 to November 1 for most taxpayers.  Since November 1, 2020 is a Sunday, taxpayers have until Monday, November 2, 2020 to file this year. Taxpayers must still make their tax payment by June 1, 2020.
