Description of Program and Relief

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

West Virginia’s SNAP program provides monthly benefits to help eligible households buy food. Individuals and families adversely impacted by COVID-19 should be eligible for SNAP if they meet general eligibility requirements. In response to the impact of COVID-19, the West Virginia SNAP program is extending certification periods for six additional months without recipients taking further action. Although no redetermination or contact forms are necessary, clients must continue to report to the DHHR under certain conditions, which are described here.

The United Sates Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved online food purchasing for SNAP recipients from certain retailers. SNAP recipients are now able to purchase food online from both Amazon and Walmart.
