Description of Program and Relief

Unemployment Insurance Benefits

Unemployed workers affected by COVID-19 may be eligible for benefits under already-existing Alaska unemployment insurance, which provides temporary income for workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own and who are either looking for new jobs, in approved training, or awaiting recall to employment. On April 13, 2020, the Alaska Department of Labor also began distributing weekly $600 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) payments under the federal CARES Act for the weeks beginning on March 29, 2020 onward. On May 7, 2020, the Alaska Department of Labor announced that up to thirteen (13) weeks of extended benefits will be available to eligible workers whose regular unemployment benefits are set to expire.
