Description of Program and Relief

Waivers of Certain Unemployment Eligibility Requirements

Missouri provides unemployment benefits, in the form of a weekly check, to individuals who have become unemployed through no fault of their own. Generally, receipt of unemployment benefits is contingent on the unemployed individual searching for new work.

In response to COVID-19, the state of Missouri has waived the work-search requirement for individuals who are unemployed due to COVID-19 causing an employer to shut down operations temporarily. Missouri has also waived its waiting week requirement, meaning those who become eligible for unemployment benefits can begin receiving the benefits immediately after their last day of work, rather than waiting one week before the benefits begin to accrue.
