Paul, Weiss Recognized in The American Lawyer for Record Settlement

In the "Big Suits" section of the September 2010 issue of The American Lawyer, Paul, Weiss was recognized for its role in the largest settlement involving an actuarial claim in Alaska Retirement Management v. Mercer, whereby on June 11 Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. agreed to pay the state of Alaska $500 million to settle a multibillion dollar negligence claim. The state alleged that the unit, Mercer Inc. erroneously calculated the liabilities of the Alaska Retirement Management Board, then covered up its mistakes.

Litigation partner Lew Clayton led the team representing the state of Alaska, which also included, among others, partner Michael Gertzman, counsel Daniel Levi, and associates James Brennan, Aubrey Holder, John Longwell, Colin McNary, Annie Pell, Samir Ranade, Elizabeth Smith, Eric Tam and Erin White.
