2L Pauli Murray Diversity Fellowship

At Paul, Weiss, diversity, equity and inclusion defines our culture. In celebration of the varied perspectives and backgrounds that enrich our profession and help us solve problems more effectively, we proudly offer the Pauli Murray Diversity Fellowship.

Program Description:

Our 2L Diversity Fellowship honors former Paul, Weiss associate Pauli Murray (1956). The first Black woman associate employed by a major New York City law firm, Murray established a legacy we are proud to honor by continuing to invest in the development and promotion of diverse talent.

The 2L Pauli Murray Diversity Fellowship will be awarded each year to law students pursuing a 2L summer associate position in our New York; Los Angeles; San Francisco; or Washington, D.C., offices. In addition to experiencing our summer program’s substantive assignments, robust training, multifaceted mentorship, client engagement and social events, fellowship recipients will be awarded $50,000, to be paid in installments as follows:

  • $25,000 upon acceptance of 2L summer associate offer with Paul, Weiss
  • $25,000 upon acceptance of full-time associate offer with Paul, Weiss

Eligibility:

All applicants must be enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school. Pauli Murray Diversity Fellows may not participate in a similar fellowship program with another law firm and will not be able to split their summer with another law firm.

Application Process:

Applications will open on May 15. At that time, a link to our online application portal will be made available.

Candidates will be prompted to upload their resumé, unofficial law school transcript and cover letter. Cover letters should consist of a personal statement addressing a topic of your choice that you feel best illustrates your interest in and qualifications for the 2L Pauli Murray Diversity Fellowship (suggested length: 500 words or less).

Please note: Summer program offer decisions may be made prior to fellowship awards being announced. As such, applicants who are not awarded the fellowship are still eligible to receive an offer to join the Paul, Weiss Summer Program.

Salary:

Paul, Weiss summer associates, including Pauli Murray Diversity Fellows, are paid an annualized salary of $225,000, prorated for the number of weeks worked.
