Brad Karp Elected Chair of the Legal Action Center’s Board

The Legal Action Center Board of Directors unanimously elected Paul, Weiss chair Brad Karp as its third chairman in the organization's 45-year history.
“Every day, the Legal Action Center works to improve the lives of individuals, families and communities in New York and across the country,” Brad said in a statement. “I am humbled to follow both Dan Mayers, who guided this organization with exceptional vision and skill for 20 years, and Arthur Liman, Legal Action Center's Founding and 25-year Chairman and my mentor at Paul, Weiss.”
Established in 1973, the Center is the only non-profit law and policy organization in the United States whose sole mission is to fight discrimination against people with histories of addiction, HIV/AIDS, or criminal records, and to advocate for sound public policies in these areas. Under Mayers' tenure, the Center significantly expanded its national policy portfolio and won landmark lawsuits that firmly established the civil rights and privacy of people with addiction histories, HIV, and criminal histories who are seeking to lead productive lives.
