Paul, Weiss Achieves Asylum Victory for Client
Paul, Weiss, in partnership with Immigration Equality, obtained asylum for a gay, HIV-positive man from the Dominican Republic. Our client was brutally attacked and assaulted because of his sexual orientation and received frequent threats against his life as well as the lives of his family members. He was afraid to report his attack to the police since they tolerate such abuse against homosexuals. Our client has been in the United States for a year and a half, but learned that he was HIV-positive after the one-year asylum deadline had passed. On April 12, he succeeded in his affirmative application following the submission of materials prepared by Paul, Weiss and an interview at the asylum office in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
